But on top of the generic announcement of the game, Rockstar Games Founder Sam Houser describes Grand Theft Auto V as a "radical reinvention," one that goes in "a bold new direction." He also refers to it as a "new vision" for the series.
The debut trailer is certainly visually impressive. And it shows us glimpses of things that are reasons to get excited about the game, but is GTA V really going to undergo any sort of massive reinvention?
It's impossible to know based on the minute and a half glimpse at the game we get in the teaser, but I've always felt that one of the reasons why GTA has become such a phenomenon is because that instead of reinventing itself with each iteration, it builds on the core GTA experience. Even going as far back as the now-primitive, top-down GTA games. Those were essentially the same experiences with very similar gameplay, but now they've been expanded on with better visuals and storytelling.
